At mid Sept, the TIME mag Asia mentioned the hot and popular Korean singer-Rain in the Music forum titled "A Korean Force of Nature".
Rain is spreading over Asia with the name "Asia Michael Jackson", caused a heavy storm in Hong Kong, and now he is preparing to step in the US market with the target of the world market.

That is anyother feeling seeing him in real person.

Korean trend Red Rain

Rain, who is just like a tornado in HK, give us "Jessica" a chance to interview him in his tight and busy schedule and to take this unique photos in HK media.

With slight curvy hair, single-edged eyelids and shy smile, Rain is as attractive as in the photos and VODs. What shocks me is his 184cm tall body.

Rain, whose original name is Jeong Ji-hun, is 23 year-old only, but he has entered the stage for 7 years. With a poor childhood, Ji-hun entered the music circle at the age 16. His first album "Bad Guy" finally released at 2002 after the few-year training. This album was so popular once after debuted and won nearly all the "New singer" music awards.

Next year, his second album "How to avoid from the sun" released with the theme song reorginised from "Shape of my heart" of Sting. This song analogy the ex-gf as the sun which can't be escaped.
Rain said he doesn't experience this kind of love affair, however, his deduction touches everyone. That's why this song stayed in the No.1 continously for 3 months in almost every music camp. This made Rain's fairy tale a brilliant history.
In the same year, Rain got almost every "Most Popular singer" from different music awards and 5 important "New singer" awards. Afterwards, he became the King in the Korea music circle.

Who don't love?
The God of Fortune always helps the hard-working people. Rain carry his fortune on to the TV stage.
In 2004, he met a drama which helped him to step out Korea, that is "Full House". Before this drama, he only acted in the TV drama "Sangdoo, let's go school". In this drama, he acts as a gigolo and a single-dad, that's distant from his real life.
But in "Full House", he acts back himself as a famous star Lee Young-jae, his acting is agreed by everyone. "Full House" makes "Lee Young-jae" not only popular in Korea, but also China, HK, Taiwan and the Asia. The rumor said some housewives prepared 100 dishes of "sam-kae tong" for the staff of "Full House"; and during the time "Full House" on air, many people left messages saying that they don't want to do anything else other than watching Lee Young-jae's smiling face!

Rain became much more famous and with Song hae-kyu, they became the "Perfect TV couple".

Although he is under million people's support, he has his lovely side.
Besides dancing and eyesight, what makes Rain attractive is the way he talks. Hexpressed his mind while clarifying the rumour with Song Hae-Gyo, "I don't need my gf having perfect body shape. I perfer chubby and cute girl."

And his Kissing theory "Kissing means you can do everything for your lover. I think kissing means to give my spirit as well as all things inside to my lover."

Drank dancing steps
Rain turned from a normal secondary student to the leader of the "Han-nyu". What and how much he paid is without any doubt.
Park Ji-young is being regarded as the key of turning this normal student to a great star. He goes back to his memory 5 years ago, and said "Rain's performance attracted me, he was doing every kind of performance without showing any tired faces. This made me felt that he is not a usual person!" On the other hand, Rain indicates that Park Ji-young is a teacher he respects a lot, "without him, I am sure there will not be "Rain". It's hard to compare our dancing as they are in different styles. We both do our best in our dancing!"
Actually, although Rain learns from Park Ji-young, he stills owns his unique dancing. Rain's dancing is rhythmic and full of energy, plus the absorption of outside elements(for example the drank dancing steps). Rain said " I think I can express everything through dancing."

It's not a temporary success
At March and July 2005, Rain had went China for the promotion of his album "It's Raining" and attending the MTV award.
The order quantity of the album is 100 thousands pieces, which is the record of Korean albums released in China. In Sept 2005, Rain held 2 concerts in Budokan which got 10 thousands fans' support. And for the concerts going to hold in HK, the tickets were all sold out in a minute.
Rain's success in these 3 years is not easy to get even others work 10 or 20 years more. It always make a person get lost under the situation of being supported by thousands and millions fans. However, to Rain, he is surely not falling into the trap. He will be a long-lasting King. That's because he is not only a star of the stage, he walked through poor and hard conditions.
Rain's childhood was as sad as the sorrow Korean drama. He lived with his parents and sister in a small metal house at the back of the market while he was young.
Due to daddy's failure in business, it was his Mom to bear the duty to earn money for the family. She sold "ttoh-bo-kki" in the market and her good son Rain always help in the shop. Rain and his sister were both introvert and silent because of the heavy duty from family.
"This charater insist till this moment. People have to spend a lot of time if he/she wants to get closer to me."Rain said.
Afterwards, his Mom died from diabetes, while his Daddy went to Brazil for work.
That's the wound which can never be cured deep inside Rain's heart but also the power for him to success.
"Every time I stand on the stage, I miss my Mom. For her, I still feel sorry till this moment. I've acheived what I promised her, that's to be a famous singer. If she knows, she will be happy with this!"

It was a rush for the cover shotting. Fortunately, Rain was relaxed in front of the camera.

Don't say the two Taiwan and Korean kings Jay and Rain have hard feelings over advertisements. The night before, when Rain was interviewed by China reporters, he spoke sincerely "I hope to work with Jay Chow to create music together in the future." Chow (Chong?) in Sou Zhou heard Rain's aspiration and said "If there is a chance to work together, of course its great."

Rain will hold "Rainy Day in Beijing" concert on Oct 22nd at China's Beijing worker's stadium
On 8pm, the night before at Ramada Seoul Hotel's press conference, Rain announced
his preparations for his concert which holds 40,000 people. Also, he disclosed
he will release Japan album in January and English album in September.

Q: Did you make any special preparations for your fans for this concert?

Bi: There's alot to learn from Chinese culture. There is unlimited potentional for future development.
I also wish during development to gain some recognition (position?)
Moreover, my goal is to produce an infusion of Korean and Chinese music. I will work hard towards not only Chinese but

Q: In China, Jay Chow is the most popular star. Regarding reports of Rain capturing with his position, what do you think of Jay Chow?
Bi: Even though I haven't met him, but I think he's an outstanding musician. But there's a big difference between Jay and my music.
I hope to work with Jay Chow or other artists. Not to say who is the winner, but hopefully in the near future, a top world star
will appear in Asia. I really hope Asia's culture will lead the world.

Q: If I am right, I heard you have been preparing the 4th album. Are you going to show a new 4th album in China?

▲현재 4집은 구성 단계다. 앞으로 해외 시장을 겨냥한 음반을 낸다. (내년 9월발표하는) 4집은 신곡 한곡을 영어버전으로도 녹음해 아시아권에서 동시 발매할 계획이다. 또 (내년 1월) 일본에서 싱글 음반을 발표한다. 공연에선 기존 국내 발표곡을 부른다.
▲ Currently, the 4th album is on the composing step. By and by, we are putting out an album aiming at the world market. By recording a new song into English version as well in the 4th album (that will come out September next year), I am planning on con-releasing it in Asia. And I am releasing a single album in Japan (next January.) In the coming performance, I will be singing the existing songs that were released domestically.

Q: 중국에서 어느 정도 인기가 있다고 생각하나.
Q: How great popularity do you think you have in China?

▲잘 모르겠다. 콘서트에 오는 분들을 내 팬으로 만드는 느낌이다. 공연장이 꽉차면 4만명이나 되는 팬이 생기지 않겠나.
▲ I have little idea. I feel that the people to come into the concert might turn into the fans of mine. If the performance hall is fully crowded, I might have more than 40 thousand fans.

Q: 중국 가요계에 대해 어느 정도 인식하고 있나.
Q: About the music circles in China, how much do you recognize?

▲중국 문화는 배울 점이 많다. 앞으로 발전할 무궁무진한 잠재력이 있다. 나도이 발전에 한몫하고 싶다. 또 우리 음악과 중국 음악을 섞은 퓨전 음악을 하는게목표다. 중국 뿐 아니라 다른 나라의 문화를 접목해 아시아 문화가 하나되도록 노력하겠다.
▲ Chinese culture has a lot of good points to be learned. It has inexhaustible deposits of potential to be developed. I’d like to participate in this development, too. My objective is some fusion music where such as ours and Chinese one are mixed. With Chinese and other countries’ cultures engrafted into mine together, I will try my best to have our various Asian cultures into one.

Q: 중국에서 저우제룬(周杰倫)이 최고 인기 스타다. 비가 그의 자리를 빼앗고 있다는 보도도 있는데 저우제룬에 대해 어떻게 생각하나.
Q: In China, Jay Chou(周杰倫) is the most popular singer. There is a news report that Rain is taking up his position gradually. What do you say to Jay Chou(周杰倫)?

▲만나진 못했지만 훌륭한 아티스트라고 생각한다. 그러나 저우제룬의 음악과내 음악은 큰 차이가 있다. 저우제룬 혹은 다른 아티스트와 작업도 하고싶다. (둘중)누가 승자라기보다는 빠른 시일 내에 아시아에서 세계 최고의 스타가 나오길 바란다. 아시아 문화 코드가 세계를 선두해나갔으면 좋겠다.
▲ Though I haven’t met him, I think he is a great artist. The thing is, there is distinction between Jay Chou’s music and mine. I wish I would do work with Jay Chou or another artist. Above and beyond who of the two is a winner, any world-most star would come out into the world from Asia, this is all I wish. I wish Asian culture code to lead the world initiatively.

Well-known for his outstanding singing skill, Jay who held his concert at Su-Zhou, has not been affected by his strong rival - Rain. In his concert, he even performed “Hip Hop” dance but Jay commented that he has no interest to compete dancing skill with Rain, he praised Rain saying that “He is good at his dance”
Two nights ago, Jay held his concert at Su-Zhou sport stadum, attracting 60,000 audience, he even include a “Hip Hop” dance item, the audiences were so mesmerized. When Jay had a duet with group “Nan Zhuan Ma Ma”, two fans suddenly broke thru the security line to go up stage to give Jay a bouquet of flowers, giving him a big fright, he then persuaded them “Please get off the stage to watch our performance, you had made us feel oddward”

As Rain had been gaining popularity in Asia, an impact affecting Jay’s status and recently replacing Jay in DHC commercial, so reporters post a question to Jay after his concert if he knows Rain? He said [Rain right? I know.] (Rain had expressed he appreciates you very much and would like to cooperate with you?) [Earlier in Thailand, we had met during an event, Rain was relatively good in his dance.] (Are you interested to compete with him dancing Hip-Hop?) [No! During his performance in Su-Zhou, Jay has forgotten some lyrics when he was singing Chang Chen Yue and Faye Wong’s songs, however, he claimed that he was satisfied with his performance, he said :[Tonight the feeling is not bad, earlier I have been worrying about memorizing the song lyrics; every time the show ends, I felt much relief. (Did it shock you when Fans rushed to the stage?) [It’s o.k. and not too crazy, so it's not affecting much, the happiest moment is to ask if the Fans enjoyed it]. Jay will be holding his concert at ShenZhen on 30th September, this will be the largest stage ever in ShenZhen which measures to 85m long.

No Clarification of news on girlfriend
On the other hand, there was rumor that his girlfriend is pregnant? Jay restlessly replied [No need to clarify, you can see with your eyes.] With regards to his girlfriend praised him for his talent, he said [Thank you! She is also talented, everybody has talent, there should not be competition.] Although his girlfriend was hosting Mid-Autumn program 2 nights ago, Jay declined to comment if both of them called each other to give words of encouragement.

Rain won “The Best Asia Artist Award” in Thailand

“Asia Star” Rain has made another hit wave in Thailand. On 17th this month, Thailand’s Virgin TV Station and Channel 3 jointly held “Virgin Radio Hit 40” Award Ceremony which Rain has won “The Best Asia Artist Award”, a newly added category. This Award was derived from the highest average score between Thailand Local Music Chart Hit and Votes from the Public. Rain beat the other Asian popular singers like SE7EN, Lee Hom, Jay Chow and won the award.

As Rain was not able to attend this Award ceremony in Bangkok, he gave his thank you speech via videoconference, expressing that he was grateful to all his Asian Fans for their great support; in order to reward his Fans, he will give his best performance in his current-shooting TV drama [This d**med Love] and his new (4th) album which will be released next year.

Meanwhile, during the Award Ceremony, STAR sang {I think I}, {I will thank you} all songs from the TV drama [Full House]. As she being the first singer to top 8 Music Charts in Thailand, STAR has been the focus of the local media which shown great interest in her - a speculation of a potential rising Korean star.
Last month in Thailand, there was a record high of viewing rate at 64% for the last episode of [Full House], Rain’s 3rd album [It’s raining] has also sold more than 100,000 copies in Thailand and the original sound track of the TV drama has sold more than 50,000 copies within 3 weeks.

How do you feel about your new drama?
TV viewership ratings is very important. Actually, I'm very concerned about this, and I hope for good viewership ratings, the higher the better. But at the same time, I hope to give the audience a warm, easy feeling. Hope that after they watched the show, they'll feel warm at heart. Teacher Lee's works have always been excellent, and everytime I finished watching a work of his, I'll be very touched. This series is also the same, after I've finished reading the script, I felt very warm at heart.

How do you feel about your role in the drama?
Bok Gu is a very interesting character. Every sentence that he says is a lie. He has no goals in life, and all along he has always been leading a very lazy, laidback life. Suddenly, one day, he decides to seek revenge, and that became the goal of his life. But eventually, he falls in love with the person whom he's seeking revenge on. Isn't he a very interesting character?

How do you feel about working with Shin Mina?
Working with her is very meaningful. Although we did not have much contact in the 1st & 2nd episodes, but the feeling is great.

What's the most difficult part about filming boxing, fighting and fire scenes?
Of course there are some difficult areas, but you'll forget everything after u've seen the exciting scenes that come about from the filming. Everytime when I'm faced with a difficulty, I'll tell myself that I must believe in the director, and I will also immerse myself totally into work. Everyday, I insist on doing a 4-hr workout.

What's your reason for accepting this project?
First of all is the trust in Teacher Lee, as well as the belief in Director Kim. There was once when I was on a plane and chanced upon a work of Director Kim. The scenes and the acting were so beautiful and fantastic. That was the first time I start to know Director Kim. A fantastic director & author, there's no reason for me to not choose this project.

Anything you'll like to say to the audience?
I believe after watching this series, the audience will feel that it's worth their time watching it. The 1st episode will air on 31st Oct, hope that everyone will stay tuned to the tv for this series.

Drank dancing steps
Rain turned from a normal secondary student to the leader of the "Han-nyu". What and how much he paid is without any doubt.
Park Ji-young is being regarded as the key of turning this normal student to a great star. He goes back to his memory 5 years ago, and said "Rain's performance attracted me, he was doing every kind of performance without showing any tired faces. This made me felt that he is not a usual person!" On the other hand, Rain indicates that Park Ji-young is a teacher he respects a lot, "without him, I am sure there will not be "Rain". It's hard to compare our dancing as they are in different styles. We both do our best in our dancing!"
Actually, although Rain learns from Park Ji-young, he stills owns his unique dancing. Rain's dancing is rhythmic and full of energy, plus the absorption of outside elements(for example the drank dancing steps). Rain said " I think I can express everything through dancing."

It's not a temporary success
At March and July 2005, Rain had went China for the promotion of his album "It's Raining" and attending the MTV award.
The order quantity of the album is 100 thousands pieces, which is the record of Korean albums released in China. In Sept 2005, Rain held 2 concerts in Budokan which got 10 thousands fans' support. And for the concerts going to hold in HK, the tickets were all sold out in a minute.
Rain's success in these 3 years is not easy to get even others work 10 or 20 years more. It always make a person get lost under the situation of being supported by thousands and millions fans. However, to Rain, he is surely not falling into the trap. He will be a long-lasting King. That's because he is not only a star of the stage, he walked through poor and hard conditions.
Rain's childhood was as sad as the sorrow Korean drama. He lived with his parents and sister in a small metal house at the back of the market while he was young.
Due to daddy's failure in business, it was his Mom to bear the duty to earn money for the family. She sold "ttoh-bo-kki" in the market and her good son Rain always help in the shop. Rain and his sister were both introvert and silent because of the heavy duty from family.
"This charater insist till this moment. People have to spend a lot of time if he/she wants to get closer to me."Rain said.
Afterwards, his Mom died from diabetes, while his Daddy went to Brazil for work.
That's the wound which can never be cured deep inside Rain's heart but also the power for him to success.

Exactly, Jessica! :thumbsup: Like what the article had mentioned, Full House helped him to step out of Korea but certainly not creating Bi. Watching FH did introduced me to Bi, but if his music, vocal and stage presence are not good, I would not be playing his music all day long and will still be supporting the actor Bi only. Eg. I prefer Takuya Kimura the actor.

Rain before becoming a Star

[1] Childhood
I still can't believe that I'm a singer. Sometimes when I fine my CD among those I own while I arrange them, I feel my heart swelling. It is a true happiness to me that there will be people somewhere who will listen and follow after my dance just like I modeled myself after the dances and songs of Seotaeji and Boys and Deux when I dreamt of becoming a singer. I used to live near Hongik University when I was a child. My mother passed away two years ago, and I now I live with two others, my father and my sister. My sister who's 3 years younger than me (I was born in 1982 and my real name is Jeong Jihun) is so blunt that we are not so close at that time. Both of us are taciturn and we hardly exchange more than two or three sentences all day. I am told that I used to like going out without telling anyone when I was young. There is one incident I remember faintly. It's my leaving home when I was 4. My parents came home from work together but they couldn't find me. So they called the police for adjunction of disappearance and looked for me here and there almost in insanity, but still couldn't find me. A day went by and my parents got a phone call. They said they found me in Ganghwa-do. There was a bus terminal in front of our place, and I think I might have taken the bus from there. They saw the contact number on my wrist band in Ganghwa-do and called my family. Although I can't remember clearly, I have a faint memory of a lady who helped me get on the bus.

[2] I've been an introvert from the begining
Even when I was young, I had been introversive and taciturn like now. It still takes me a long time to get close to people. But once I become close, I talk so much that I am surprised that I can speak so well. I didn't have much talent in studying when I was in elementary school and let the day go by without saying a word. So it was natural that I didn't have a girlfriend who liked me. I was an unnoticeable student in class. If there was anything that people would notice about me is that I was a bit tall. I was always the third or fourth tallest boy in the class. I would always sit there quietly, but one day I stirred it up. It was at the talent show competition among classes during the school trip when I was in the 6th grade. Our class's turn was closing in and nobody volunteered. I kept on watching and felt impatient so told them that I will enter the competition to represent our class. But the response of the kids in our class was much less than flattering. I could hear them say slanders about me from here and there, saying 'why is he representing us?' I got proud and finally it was our class's turn. I stood on the stage. The children concentrated on me and the music was on. I told myself to 'show them something' and danced the dances I saw on the TV and street without a second thought. There was a burst of clapping hands as my stage was over. I felt the fulfilling emotion for the first time, and a thought crossed my mind suddenly. It said, 'Yes, it's dance.'

[3] Depression and an urge to kill myself
I entered Sungmun Junior High as I awakened to dance. By looks, anyone could tell that I was a disorderly student by appearance. In order to learn how to dance, I hung out with older boys who were disorderly and neglected school works. Although they took my money and clothes, I followed them because of one reason that I have to learn how to dance. There was a time when we got caught by the police and taken to the police station while we were practicing at the park near Hongik University because we didn't have anywhere to go and practice dancing and people around us pointed at us saying we are disorderly students. I lied to my father that I am going to the library to study, and there was nothing I could do but neglect my studies because I was busy dancing. As this went on, my grades got worse and worse. I sat for the fist exam of my junior high, and I got average score of 45. It was something I could get by guessing instead of going through the questions. But since I was so tired out dancing that I slept during the examination without solving the questions. Frankly, I was also shocked by the results. My father didn't even treat me like his own son. He told me to leave home and didn't even look at me. If my father had beaten me or gotten extreme with me, I could have become perversed, but I gave myself a lot of thoughts seeing my father like that. As I came to talk to nobody in the family, I fell into a depression and there were time when I even felt the urge to kill myself. So I worried myself sick over it and decided that I need to go better in studies than this, so I committed myself to reading and could recover my scores to a degree.

[4] I promised my dad that I will not do anything bad
Although I hung out with scarey boys to learn how to dance, I promised my father that I will never smoke and do bad things. I still keep my words about not smoking. Our dancing team practiced hard, and entered the national amateur dance competition held at Lotte World, Jamsil, Seoul to confirming our talent. Although I can't remember what year exactly, Pyo Inbong, the comedian, was the MC of the competition. The name of our danding team was 'Challenger.' I entered the competition with four other guys, and I stood in the middle to dance as I was tall. We didn't receive any award though. Later, I heard from Inbong after I became a singer that Gangta, the singer, had also entered the competition. I took interest in rugby when I was in the second grade of junior high. The boys in ruby club looked cool and I practiced amongst the rugby club members of the school nearby, but I felt like I couldn't do both dance and sports well, so I chose dance. Then it came the last year of junior high and I started to worry about my future. My friend went to liberal arts high schools but I looked for one where I can dance and study at the same time. So, I came to the conclusion of high school for arts. I didn't go to any acting school and I took notes of actors' lines when I watched drama and practiced acting by memorizing them by myself.

[5] I proudly passed the entry exam for Angyang High School of Arts
Since I didn't know anything about acting, I went to the book store, bought all the acting related books and read them all before the entry examination of Angyang High School of Arts. I had to show other special ability, and I looked for something related to dance and decided to prepare mime. I was certain about expressing things with my body. The people who knew me disagreed with me, saying that 'acting is not your thing,' but I worked hard and passed the examination proudly. But now that acting has become a study for me, it didn't look like fun anymore and didn't suit me that well. So, during the freshman year, I passed acting and continued hanging out with the guys and dancing. As people came to know about my dancing, I came to enter various talent shows as the representing competitor and I grabbed the attention of girls as well. Every morning when I go to school and open the locker, there were presents from unknown people. The presents were mostly milk, cakes, flowers and letters. I regret that I didn't try to find out who they were but I was too busy dancing that I didn't have the time to think about girls. In my freshman year, I tried to adapt to acting to a degree, but during the early sophomore year, I came to hate acting classes so much so that I couldn't bear taking it anymore. So I was late for school more than on time and kept my seat during the morning session only, and slipped out during acting training class. So, there I was, indulging myself into dance, and I got 'stamped' as a bad boy.

[6] I beat up my teacher with a stick
I'll talk about my 'teacher assault' this time. When I went to Anyang High School or Arts, I beat the buttocks of my teacher because of dance. As I concentrated on dancing and skipped acting team sessions, the senior students started to hate me. They took me to the backyard of the school and beat me up and rebuked me that I shouldn't break the team work. So I changed my mind and decided to 'concentrate on acting than dancing.' But suppressing my desire to dance didn't go too far. One day, I couldn't stand it anymore and ran out of the classroom. The next day, the teacher who was teaching the class came in with a stick. Then, he said, "Beat me with this stick. If you don't, I'll beat other students." There were so many conflicts of thoughts in my head at that moment. Many girls were in the same class and there were only good kids in there. So I thought about what I'm going to do for a bit and beat the teacher's buttocks with the stick. There was nothing I can do at that moment. It was only days before our graduation when the teacher told us about this incident frankly. He said that he never thought that I would really beat him. He used the same trick when he was teaching at another high school for arts, and when teachers play this trick, the student mostly say they are so sorry and cry but we were such a formidable foe.

[7]Fatal encounter with Park Jinyeong (JYP)
In 2000, the two biggest incidents of my life happened. I met (Park) Jinyeong, who lead me to be a singer, and my mother passed away. I will first talk about how I met Jinyeong. I joined an underground dance team in junior year of my high school. I lived with them, cooking and washing up the dishes, and also danced at the clubs in Itaeweon and Hongik University, which were the "in place" at that time. My family was going through hard times at that time. My father had been in the trade business but after repeated failures, he left us a letter saying that he will return when he's settled and left for Brazil. So, my mother, who had been suffering from diabetes had to support the family. I couldn't understand my mother who kept on working when she was so unwell. I feel that I had been foolish and inconsiderate at that time. I indulged in dance even more as I started to feel dissatisfaction about my parents. One day, I followed a friend who was working as a road manager to a shabby office. Then, oh my, Park Jinyeong walked into the office. That room was the office of Jinyeong's JYP entertainment. Jinyeong saw me, and asked "Can I possibly ask what you do?" I answered, "I dance" and he asked me to send a video tape so he can audition me. 'Wow, will Park Jinyeong, the producer who trained god and Park Jiyun train me to be a singer?' I was so happy at the moment and I sent the tape for audition to him as soon as I came back.

[8] Park Jinyeong pays my mother's hospital bills
(Park) Jinyeong called me after I had sent the audition tape. He said, 'let's release a record' and accepted me as his trainee. I was truly happy, and I danced and practiced singing even harder. While I was absorbed in happiness and working to make my dream come true, my nother's illness worsened severly. My father, who had left for Brazil just like that, came back to Korea after a few months without adapting to the local conditions. My mother played the role of the family's head in place of my father and her illness worsened all of the sudden, but since my mother had been ill frequently from when I was young, I didn't realize that the situation was that serious at that time. My father wandered from region to region even after he had come back, and there was no one to take care of my mother. I also didn't look after my mother well, thinking 'if I'm the only one who works hard for living, so be it.' I told Jinyeong everything about my mother's condition. Then, he said, "I will admit her into the hospital and pay for the bills so you needn't worry," and comforted me. I am truly grateful to him. My mother was hospitalized after that but it was too late by then. At the time my mother was hospitalized, she had severe inflammation already and her entire body had gathered. The people at the hospital also said that I'd better take her home. My mother came back home, and I really feel a lump in my heart when I recall those days. My mother's condition kept on worsening and we took her back to the hospital. Jinyeong and his wife came to the hospital to stay with my mother.

[9] How can someone like you dance?
Although so many people helped, my mother fell into a coma, and passed away just like that. My mother said her last words as she passed away. She told me to look after my sister well, and I promised her to do so. Also, in my heart, I told myself over and over to do my best and become the best. My heart still aches when I think of my mother. I could have shown her how well I am doing if only she could wait a little more... When my heart breaks I recall how I neglected my family while I could have been really good. I practiced even harder after my mother passed away. Jinyeong didn't teach things one by one but he showed the way to do them. Our company made a video tape with 12 soul dance motions and 9 steps and I practiced until I got tired of it. When Jinyeong wasn't busy, he'd visit the studio to see me dancing and teach me. But he never said a word of compliment to me. Nowadays he often says "great or good job" but in those days, he used to discourage me, saying "how can someone like you dance? It will never work." That was his way of training. When Jinyeong couldn't train me because of his music works in the US, I had to fight against loneliness. I stayed at the studio until late after everybody's gone home to compose dances and practice and at times, I was really lonely and depressed. So, the method I came up with was to practice singing and dancing in the subway and buses.

[10] Fighting against loneliness
I got so tired practicing alone. So I practiced like a crazy on the way to the studio and back home. I sang to the music loudly, composed dances that will fit the song, and danced in the subway and buses openly. To others, I was an 'insane' guy. Although I felt uneasy that I might not become a singer after Jinyeong left for the US to become a producer, but I fought against loneliness and practiced hard alone. And Jinyeong came back from the US after completing his work as a producer. So, I thought I'd be working on my album right away, but Jinyeong said that his album is to be released first because he has a good song. So, my debut album was postponed to August. And I composed the dance for <But I'm Taken>. Although not the entire dance for the song is done by me, there is a lot of my dance in <But I'm Taken>. Also, I worked as Jinyeong's dancer. Although it was a good chance to experience the stage, but going everywhere with Jinyeong everyday and practicing was very difficult. While Jinyeong talked to his wardrobes and road managers or resting, I was still practicing without a rest. I had to sing automatically whenever Jinyeong waves his hand, and I repeated singing the same song almost a hundred time a day. Each time, I got hit on the head because I "get the wrong notes again". Getting hit in the head sounds like nothing but being hit on the same spot again hurts quite a bit.

[11] Working on my album has setbacks and delays
While I was back dancing for (Park) Jinyeong, I think I sang the song <Baby, Bay> alone, a number that is in my album, almost a hundred times. In the van where others were sleeping and resting, I sang the song endlessly to the waving of Jinyeong's hand. I kept on practicing like that and waited for August when my album would be released. Then, as August came, the situation changed again. It was time to release(Park) Jiyun's album, who's in the same management company. My album was postponed to November again. My anxiety grew in those series of events. After working on Jiyun's album, Jinyeong left for the US again. I held onto practicing singing in uneasiness as I had nothing else to hang onto. I wondered if I'll ever release my own album after all these hard working for 2 years and that I was growing old for a dance singer. Upon his return to Korea around February this year, Jinyeong said "let release your album this time for real" and recording was over in 1 month. The recording didn't take long because all songs had been out already. At last, the debut stage of <Bad Man> was on April 28. I wanted to show everything I had practiced so far - the song and the dance - but it didn't go as well as I had thought. Although I didn't make any particular mistake, I was tense and couldn't move my body freely. But I told myself 'it will be the end if I don't do it right this time' and faced my fans contiuously, and I gradually gained self-confidence.

The comment that made me feel the worst since I started to perform as a singer was "why aren't you singing live?" Since I practiced singing so hard, I was sure that I can sing live. But since I wasn't experienced much and being a newbie, I had to lip-synch on stage more than not. I was left distressed until I sang live at of MBC TV in end of June. People complimented that "I thought you danced well, but you sing well too" and they were surprised on the other hand. Hearing compliments after singing live was the best memory I have until now. And my greatest wish is to become a singer who sings live well. It's been only three months since my debut. I was known by the song and its succeeding song is getting even more popularity among fans. So, I will be working hard until the end of this year. Recently, I've challenged the new territory of acting. I will be playing the role of a 'player' in a sitcom and I find acting very interesting. I want to show my all-round talent that sings and acts well, and later, I want to succeed as a fashion designer. My biggest dream now it to stand tall as a successful singer in 10 years, and by then, I will start design studies. And in 20 years from now, I want to be acknowledged as a designer too.

Rainy Day HK Concert report

Korean pop sensation Rain held his concert in Hong Kong yesterday, attracting 7,800 fans. Rain entered the stage with loud applauses from fans. Rain first sang his hit "Romantic Room" and then continued with an English song "I'm a Star." When Rain shouted, "Make some noise!," his fans shouted loud and nonstop. After the second song, Rain took off his coat and ripped the sleeves from his shirt, revealing his muscular physique and made fans screamed excitedly.

The 7,800 seats at the theater was full, thus there were not a single empty seat left. There were a total of fifty security guards at the concert. Showing their appreciation, many Hong Kong celebrities attended the concert including Karen Mok, Joey Yung, Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Michael Tao, Kate Tsui and more. Souvenirs were being sold consisting of photos and more that thousands of fans purchased.

Moreover, there was a small incident regarding fans. Two of Rain's fans lost their admission ticket, thus cannot enter the arena. They had contacted the police for help and with much investigation, the police reveals that the seats had been ascended by other people, thus creating a tumultous time to resolve the problem.

Here's details on BKK concert so far...

1. The concert will be held at IMPACT Arena, BKK. (max. 10,000+ seats) Some fans said there're better venues but GMM stated Bi and JYPE requested it there. So it's settled now 'cause Bi's wish is our command!

2. The highest ticket price will be approx. 4,000 Baht (about US$98), subject to change because many fans think it should be the same as HK's highest price.

3. The organizer is GMM Grammy's subsidiary, Bi's Thailand label itself....beating out other 2 concert organizers who showed the interests in Bi's concert.
