About us:
On The Run Fansubs was officially born on December 17th with the purpose of making English Subtitles for Jay Chou (周杰倫/Zhou Jie Lun) videos ;)
We released our first short projects on 01.01.2008 which were "Jay Chou in scoop 01.18.06" & "Jay Chou in scoop 02.13.06". We're still working on more project so I'm hoping that more members will join us

What is Fansubbing?:
Fansubbing, or fan subtitling, is the process of taking a video or movie in a foreign language and adding your own subtitles to it so that people who don't know the original language can watch and enjoy the work. The phenomenon of fansubbing is most prevalent in the anime community, since most anime originates in Japan and must be translated before it can be widely shown outside of Japan. However, fansubbing certainly is not limited in scope to anime; it can be employed whenever one wants to make a motion picture work accessible to people unfamiliar with the language.

Difference between Softsubs and Hardsubs

Softsubs are subtitle files that the viewer has a choice whether or not to view it with the video. They are either text or images that are displayed at the same time with and on top of the video. Most recent video players/codec packs come with softsubtitle rendering engines and can display external softsubs, softsubs that come in a file separate from the videos. Other softsubs are included in the video file, but as a separate stream that the viewer can choose to view or not view. These subtitles can be easily separated from the video files and then edited.
Hardsubs are different from softsubs in that they have been edited onto the images of the video. The viewer is given no choice but to see the subtitles (unless they crop the video itself, of course). Because these subtitles are part of the images of the video, they cannot be ripped as easily. That is not to say, however, that hardsubs cannot be ripped.

Fansubbing Jobs:

Raw Provider:
Provides torrents or direct download links of shows etc. which we want to sub

Translators:
are doing English Translations of the show, concert, mv etc.
in Notepad

Timers:
are timing the subtitles. Means, setting the start and ending time when the subtitles should show up by referring to the chinese subs (if available), or time according to the audio

Quality Checkers (QC)
This job will be splitted into two parts =>
QC'er [trans]: Checks the english grammar or parts that hasn't been translated... and has to correct/add them! It would be nice if you're fluent in BOTH english and chinese so that you can catch mistranslations
and
QC'er [time]: Checks if the subtitles are showing up at the right time and if you're able to read the whole sentence in the given time. If not, correct them so the output is readable!!!

Typesetters:
are in charge of styling the subs.. means... setting the position, fonts, size, color etc. and are also responsible for proper line breaks for the subtitles that span over multiple lines. They area also the ones who put in the credits in the videos :P

Encoder:
is the one who is hardsubbing (see explanation above!).
Have to be familiar with avisynth (virtualdubmod, megui or super... depends on
what format we're going to encode!)

Uploader:
is in charge of uploading our finished projects to uploading servers like MegaUpload, MediaFire, SendSpace etc.

Logo Provider:
has to have good PhotoShop skills to make a nice logo (no need for that anymore ) with our Fansubbing Group Name or banners etc. to promote this project!

Who can join us:
ANYBODY can join the team as long as you're interested in fansubbing and frequently online here in the forum to see updates!
You don't have to be familiar with chinese at all to help out! If you don't like technical stuff like encoding and can't help out with either translating or uploading.. I always suggest members to start learning how to time!! It's the easiest thing to learn among fansubbing but definitely takes the longest time to finish

If you need raw videos, anything on this thread is free for you to use. Even if it isn't uploaded by me, I'm sure the folks on Stage 6 will be glad to have you use their uploads for fansubbing.

but... how exactly can we download videos from there? do we need to register?
I've tried downloading a video last time and I got a .divx file with which I've never worked before... mmh... need to try converting it later

All you need is to download the DivX player. It's free, and it's actually a good player--it even plays videos with titles in Chinese, which most video programs don't do for me.

I've tried it out with Media Player Classic already.. and it worked... thanks though

But question is whom to credit for the RAW Videos??
Or are you okay with... RAW Video taken from http://www.stage6.com/Jay-Chou?

That'll work. I've put just about every Jay-related video on Stage6 on that channel, so anything you use will be on there.

Actually... Sorry to say, but no, I don't think that would work. Crediting http://www.stage6.com/Jay-Chou only would mean wiping all the other credits off.

Example.. Some videos uploaded there were taken by me during the Singapore Concert (No, I'm not sore. really), after which they were uploaded to stage6. Fine, since there were credits.

But now if the raw videos are credited to stage6 alone, only the *uploader* gets the credit, and recognized as the source; while the original creator/ provider of the video disappears. I personally don't think this is really nice, speaking for all the "sources".

Yup. Just my 2 cents worth... Either way credits should always go to the original source.

I forgot about that--man, this is difficult! Some of the stuff was originally ripped by me, such as the MVs from "Fantasy Plus," which came from the Japan version of the DVD, but others were originally from this site. The ones from here are credited to here on there, so if that is so, then credit whoever uploaded it here, I suppose. Would that work better for everyone?

I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes--especially those of the sources, because they do such a good job of sharing videos with everyone. I really appreciate their effort, since I live in a country where these videos are hard to come by. I don't want to steal the credit from them.

Okay... I've should have written it like this... is it okay to credit => "RAW taken from http://www.stage6.com/Jay-Chou" if there are no other credits stated in the video (logo, or whatever) or no credits from the uploader of stage6 (credits to ziai - www.jay-chou.net)

but don't worry ziai, we'll be looking around the forum if the video is uploaded in here and will ask for permission to sub it first! sorry to make you angry
If the RAW videos can't be found here or anywhere else we use the RAWs from stage6 WITH proper credits of course!!!
